Territory

A Territory in ERPNext is a geographic area or business segment your organization covers. Territories assist in the categorization of Customers, addressing grouping, accounting report organization, and sales target allocation better. In the current version of ERPNext, Territories are not geographically-based—they can represent market segments, business units, or distribution zones as well, providing companies with greater flexibility in how they segment and review their sales activities.

In order to see the Territory list, go to:

Home > Selling > Settings > Territory

1. How to create a Territory

  1. Go to the Territory list and click on New.

  2. Type in the Territory Name.

  3. Check 'Group Node' if sub-territories exist within this Territory. For instance, France may be a group Territory, and Paris may be a sub-territory of it.

  4. (Optional) setting up a Parent Territory allows hierarchizing your territory Technique

  5. Save the record.

Territory Tree

After saving, one or more sub-territories can be created for a parent territory. These territories can then be used in transactions (such as Sales Orders, Quotations) and reports for filtering and analysis. You can now also bulk import territories with Data Import to accelerate configuration for big sales networks.

2. Features

2.1 Assigning a Territory Manager

You can also have a Territory Manager who is in charge of managing sales activities in the area. The manager's information is directly associated with the territory record, allowing report distribution, task scheduling, and performance monitoring for that area on auto-pilot.

2.2 Setting Sales Targets

ERPNext enables you to set targeted sales for a specific territory, allowing you to track performance more effectively and hold people accountable. Targets can be set up using the following fields:

  • Item Group – Direct sales targets for a particular product group.

  • Fiscal Year – Set year-end targets that match your business cycle.

  • Target Quantity – Number of units that are likely to be sold in the territory.

  • Target Amount – The financial amount of sales to be reached.

  • Target Distribution – Month-to-month or seasonal distribution of sales targets for closer monitoring.
